Dalbeattie town

As I said earlier, having relocated from Thailand in 2004, I now live in the small village of the Haugh of Urr, which is located in the Stewartry area of Galloway. There are 3 main towns in this area namely Dalbeattie, Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright.
Dalbeattie is the largest of these 3 towns with a population of around 4,200 and is situated around 6 kilometres from my home. The town has a fairly large school covering the ages of 3-18 years, a medical centre, various shops, small hotels, cafes, restaurants and a filling station.
It is also the home of the very famous ‘Thai Massage Room & Spa’ that is of course owned and run by me!

The town is popular with tourists and this is no doubt party due to the friendliness of the local people who warmly welcomed me when I arrived here from Thailand.
There are loads to see and do here including a lovely park, woodland walks, fishing in

the small river that runs through the town and a privately run museum that features an
exhibition on the famous White Star Liner RMS Titanic that sank in the North Atlantic on 15th April 1912 after colliding with an iceberg with the loss of 1,500 lives.

The lives lost included William Murdoch who was the First Officer on the liner and he was born in Dalbeattie. A plaque in his honour is mounted on the wall of the Town Hall. His character was one of the main ones portrayed in the 1997 blockbuster movie ‘Titanic’ that also starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
The town of Dalbeattie is historically fairly new and dates back to around the year 1780. Dalbeattie and the surrounding area is a must for every tourist.
